On January 1, Sacramento Fire Department celebrated the 20 year anniversary of its paramedic and ambulance transportation program.
The department’s fleet of ambulances began transporting on January 1, 1994, with three ambulances and 18 full-time firefighter paramedics, based on the need to provide shortened response times. Since then, the fleet has grown to 13 full-time and two flex-time ambulances with more than 340 full-time firefighter paramedics.
Over the last twenty years, the Department has implemented a number of innovative technological and educational advancements through this program—many which have had a direct impact on improving the outcomes experienced by countless individuals receiving emergency medical services.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Sacramento Fire Department’s paramedic and transportation program, key pioneers and supports of the program will be attending this momentous occasion, including past City Managers, Fire and Emergency Medical Services Chiefs, Hospital personnel, and administrative staff.
