Her interest in design and clothing is what lead Veronica Kandl into museum work. While working on her Bachelor’s in fashion design, a clothing history class is what piqued her interest in working with pieces from the past.
Veronica, a transplant from the Midwest, is the Curator of History for the Center for Sacramento History which is the historical research center for the Sacramento region. There, you can find Veronica tending to objects and artifacts that keep Sacramento’s history alive and thriving.
“I find objects from the past tell great stories — about technology, morals, gender roles, economics, cultural and spiritual beliefs and more, “said Veronica.
Veronica has been in the museum field for more than 25 years. Since obtaining a master’s degree in museum studies, she has been working in public history museums since then. She’s been with the Center for less than two years and previously worked in Michigan.
“I am privileged to be able to see, study and take care of objects that help tell the history and story of the Sacramento region,” Veronica added.
Right now, Veronica is preparing for a show, Inside the Vault Textile Tours: Fabulous Footwear, which will examine footwear dating from the 1860s to the 1970s. You can even see some miner’s boots from 1900, track shoes worn by a local world record setting pole vaulter and find out how an argument between two brothers create Adidas and Puma shoes.
The show will run Thursday, April 24 through Sunday, April 27.
