Wheels begin to turn on ESC construction

We have reached a significant milestone in Sacramento’s history with the start of demolition activities on the Sacramento ESC and the project is well on its way towards the grand opening of October 2016. Today, Mayor Kevin Johnson and Sacramento Kings President Chris Granger kicked off demolition activity to build a new downtown arena.

This is truly a shining example of a public-private partnership that will result in a community asset that will be enjoyed by those who live and visit here for years to come.

Between now and October 2016, a lot of work has to be done.  There will certainly be noise, as well as pedestrian and traffic impacts, but those will be minimized and mitigated.    You can stay up-to-date on the construction project by visiting Sacramento ESC.  It is our goal to keep you apprised of any delays or impacts associated with the project.

Downtown Sacramento and Old Sacramento is still open and we encourage you to continue to patronize these businesses and look for the many activities available nearby, including the concerts in the plaza near Macy’s.
