City Expands Utility Rate Assistance Program

City Hall

Qualifying Households Can Save Up to $156 on Utility Costs Annually

The City of Sacramento is expanding its Utility Rate Assistance Program (URAP) to help income eligible Sacramento households save up to $156 annually on utility costs. The expanded program will help offset recycling and solid waste rate increases that take effect on July 1, 2015.

The URAP program already offsets the water and wastewater rate increases that have taken effect since July 1, 2012. In 2015-2016, the savings to eligible households is $144 annually for water and wastewater and $12 annually for recycling and solid waste rates.

The City is utilizing some of its taxes on utility enterprise revenues to help fund the program. Households that are already receiving rate assistance for water and wastewater will automatically begin receiving recycling and solid waste rate assistance by the August or September 2015 utility bill. The recycling and solid waste discount will be applied retroactively, as of July 1, 2015. Newly qualified applicants will receive the applicable monthly discount(s) effective the application approval date.
