Community to Celebrate Old Sacramento Tunnel Enhancements, July 23

Sacramento advocates announced a block party to celebrate enhancements to the tunnel that connects downtown and Old Sacramento. The new lighting improves accessibility and creates a sense of place for visitors and residents. This is the first in a series of events, coined “Bright Ideas”, which will celebrate the unique public spaces that make Sacramento’s urban core an even better place to live, work and play. Make sure to RSVP on the Facebook event page too!

Thursday, July 23 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. PT
The tunnel on K Street, between 2nd and 3rd streets.

The free event is open to the public and is hosted by the Downtown Sacramento Partnership and Old Sacramento Business Association and sponsored by JMA Ventures, LLC with support from the Sacramento Kings and City of Sacramento. Special guest, Councilmember Steve Hansen will emcee the event.

The K Street tunnel lighting improvement project was spearheaded by the City of Sacramento Department of Public Works in partnership with Councilmember Steve Hansen in early 2015. The project converted old fluorescent lighting to Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), and incorporated color LEDs to improve the functional lighting of the tunnel and the aesthetic of the tunnel ceiling. Additionally, the lighting improvement project reduces the City’s overall energy consumption.
