Christmas Tree Collection for City Customers & Free Drop Off Events for The General Public

–Last day for City Yard Waste Service Customers to put out trees and leaves is January 31, 2016–

City of Sacramento residential yard waste customers can place trees in the street for pickup as part of the City’s Leaf Season service. The last day that trees, or any yard waste, can be placed out on the street for collection is January 31, 2016. City customers can find out when the next on-street collection is estimated for their address by checking the Leaf Season schedule at SacRecycle or calling 311.

Holiday Tree Recycling Guidelines

  • Tress should be clean of all lights, tinsel, decorations etc. and have no stand attached.
  • Flocked trees will be accepted.
  • The city will collect up to five (5) trees. Loads in excess of five trees will only be accepted at:
    • Elder Creek Recovery & Transfer Station,
    • Kiefer Landfill, and the
    • North Area Recovery Station.
  • Make sure there is space between the curb and tree to allow water to flow to storm drains.
  • Do not place trees in bike lanes.
  • If you miss the citywide tree collection you can put your tree in your yard waste container. The tree must be cut into pieces that will fit completely into the container with the lid closed. It will be collected on your next weekly collection day.

Free Drop-off Events for Residents who do not receive City service

On-street tree collection is for residential customers who receive yard waste service from the City. Businesses Residents who live in apartments and should use one of the free drop-off events listed below or find another legal disposal method for their tree. Improper disposal of holiday trees on city streets is considered illegal dumping. Please note the specific dates and times for free tree drop-off.

Also accepting trees Dec. 26 – Jan. 31, Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (from Jackson Highway, south on Florin Perkins Road, right on Fruitridge Road)

SMUD – Corporation Yard – 6100 Folsom Blvd.

Saturday, Jan. 9
8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

North Area Recovery Station – 4450 Roseville Road

Saturday, Jan. 9 and Sunday, Jan. 10
8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
(I-80 to Watt, left on Roseville Road)

Kiefer Landfill – 12701 Kiefer Blvd.

Saturday, Jan. 9 and Sunday, Jan. 10
8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
(from Jackson Highway, north on Grant Line, right on Kiefer)

Elder Creek Recovery and Transfer – 8642 Elder Creek Road

Saturday, Dec. 26, Jan. 2 and Jan. 9
8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Also accepting trees Dec. 26 – Jan. 31, Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (from Jackson Highway, south on Florin Perkins Road, left on Elder Creek)
