Coming soon: Ramona Avenue Extension
On Thursday, April 5, Mayor Darrell Steinberg, Councilmember Jeff Harris, Councilmember Eric Guerra, Assembly member Kevin McCarty, and community partners broke ground for the Romona Avenue Extension Project.
This project, along with the upcoming work on Folsom Boulevard, will enhance safety for all modes of transportation — especially for those commuting to and from Sacramento State University. Construction will begin Spring 2018 and is anticipated to be completed by September 2018.
This project not only enhances safety along Folsom Boulevard, but will also connect to a 225-unit student housing project, The Crossings. The housing community will provide 750 beds to serve the students of Sacramento State.
Additionally, the Crossings is being constructed within the 240-acre Sacramento Center for Innovation Specific Plan, an area that is designated to foster the exchange of technical knowledge and expertise between students, faculty and innovative businesses and technology companies.
More about the Ramona Avenue Extension and Folsom Boulevard Complete Streets Rehabilitation
The Ramona Avenue Extension Project will improve pedestrian and vehicular connectivity to the north and south of Highway 50 with an extension of Ramona Avenue from Brighton Avenue to Folsom Boulevard. Construction will begin March 2018 and anticipated to be completed by September 2018. Project construction includes:
- New signalized intersection
- New Ramona Avenue extension under US 50
- Widening the roadway on Folsom Boulevard
- New curb and gutter
- New sidewalk and median
- Underground utility installation
Additionally, residents can expect to see work begin on the Folsom Boulevard Complete Streets Rehabilitation Project beginning June 2018 and anticipated to be completed by October 2018. Work will be done along Folsom Boulevard at the intersection of 65th and Folsom boulevard, and Folsom Boulevard and Elvas Avenue. Improvements include:
- Rehabilitation of the existing pavement
- Realignment of the Elvas Avenue Intersection
- Widening of Folsom Boulevard
- Sidewalk gap closure and continuous bike lanes on both sides of Folsom Boulevard,
- On-street parking where feasible,
- Installation of new drainage improvements
- Street lighting
