At 10:17 a.m. on Oct. 17, the City of Sacramento will conduct a test of its emergency notification system.
More than 77,000 residents within the City will receive a test message from Sacramento Alert, the mass notification system that is used to notify residents about threats to health and safety, including severe weather, flooding, gas leaks, police activity and more.
The test will include a recorded message to all in-service landline phones. Wireless devices and email addresses will receive a text-based message only if the user has opted in to Sacramento Alert.
“The primary objective of this citywide exercise is to test the system’s capability, capacity and effectiveness to deliver emergency notifications to the public in the event of a major hazard,” said Daniel Bowers, Director of Emergency Management. “To ensure safety for you and your family during an emergency event, the City recommends all citizens to sign up for emergency notifications today.”
Residents can still register their contact information to opt-in and be part Thursday’s test, as well as receive future notifications and alerts.
- Visit www.Sacramento-Alert.org, provide personal information, select a username, password, and security question.
- Select how you prefer to be contacted, such as cell phone, text, and/or landline.
- Register one or multiple addresses such as home or work address.
A regional test alert was last conducted in January 2019 to 300,000 subscribers which included Sacramento, Placer and Yolo counties.
