Looking for a summer job? The City of Sacramento has more than 500 available

The City of Sacramento’s Youth, Parks and Community Enrichment department (YPCE) soon will begin its 2020 seasonal hiring, with more than 500 temporary positions available starting this spring.

“Each year, Youth, Parks and Community Enrichment offers a variety of rewarding employment opportunities for both teens and adults looking for summer jobs,” said Mario Lara, director of Youth, Parks and Community Enrichment.“We are excited to welcome new members to our YPCE teams for the 2020 season.”  

Within the Aquatics division, the City will hire more than 100 lifeguards. Lifeguard pay starts at $15 an hour and required training is available through the City. The next lifeguard training starts Saturday, Feb. 1 at Pannell Meadowview Pool. There are also free lifeguard workshop and scholarship days available in March and April.

In addition, the City is hiring aquatic specialists, pool and assistant pool managers, cashiers, utility workers and student trainees for a total of 191 seasonal aquatic positions. For more information on classes and employment opportunities, click here.

The City of Sacramento has more than 300 positions available within its youth workforce development programs. These programs provide young people with experiences and support that foster their development as healthy and productive adults. Some of the available opportunities include:

Camp Sacramento is hiring for more than 30 positions including caretakers, cooks, camp aides, recreation leaders, hosts and program directors. This year, Camp Sacramento will celebrate a special milestone. “Camp Sacramento will be turning 100 years old,” said Camp Manager Thomas Semeta. “We are very excited as we put all the ideas together and start planning the most epic of all of our seasons yet – a centennial celebration!”

The City will host its 2020 Youth Job and Resource Fair 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 21 at City Hall (915 I St.). This annual event begins the summer staff recruitment within the Department of Youth, Parks and Community Enrichment and provides more information about these and other City seasonal positions.
