Sac PD dispels rumors about how they are operating under County’s ‘Stay at Home’ order

The Sacramento Police Department this week released a statement addressing recent rumors about law enforcement’s role during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The statement, which included a video message from Sacramento Police Chief Daniel Hahn, clearly explained what the department is doing and what it is not doing under Sacramento County’s recent “Stay at Home” order.

Hahn said Sac PD officers, “as well as any other officers in Sacramento County,” are not “making traffic stops, or stopping individuals, solely for the purpose to determine if they are essential workers or if they have some sort of paperwork.”

The message from Sac PD lists several facts and frequently asked questions relating to how officers will be operating under the Sacramento County’s public health order:

The Police Department is also asking that residents report any suspicious activity by calling 911 or the non-emergency number at 916-808-5471.

Sacramento County has a web page with information about the “Stay at Home” order and contact information for further questions.
