Looking for a summer job? The City’s Aquatics Division is hiring

Recruitment is underway for more than 200 seasonal positions in the City of Sacramento’s Aquatics Division.

The Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment Department is looking to fill positions for lifeguards, senior lifeguards, assistant pool managers, pool managers and cashiers for the 2021 summer season.

“Working in Aquatics is rewarding because you help the community by teaching lifesaving skills and supporting a safe and supervised swimming environment for all of Sacramento to enjoy,” said Jackie Beecham, recreation manager for the Community Enrichment Division. “You’ll also learn leadership and safety skills that will help prepare you for future job or career opportunities and make new friends as a member of a great staff team.”

Last year, due to the pandemic, the City only opened four pools for limited programming. As public health conditions continue to improve, and with the implementation of safety guidelines, the City plans to open many of its pools across Sacramento this summer.

To ensure pool-goers’ safety, the Aquatics Division will reduce capacity at the pools to allow for physical distancing and provide opportunities to pre-register for programs such as recreational swimming.

The summer season starts on Memorial Day, but staff training begins before then. The Aquatics Division is currently interviewing and hiring and will continue until positions are filled.

“Completing an application soon is essential,” Beecham said. “We hire people from every community and of all ages 16 and up, providing opportunities for high school students all the way up to active, retired adults who are looking to enjoy a fun, fast-paced outdoor job.”

Pay starts at $15.04 an hour for lifeguards, and pool managers earn up to $21.27 an hour. For those who are not yet certified as lifeguards, they can apply for the job now and sign up for a Lifeguard Certification Class. Lifeguard Class Scholarships are also available for people interested in working for the City’s Aquatics Division.
