Holiday Parking

City’s annual free holiday parking returns to Sacramento

The City of Sacramento will modify its parking meter operating hours during the holiday season in select areas to incentivize residents and visitors to dine, shop and attend events in downtown and midtown.

“We’re proud to support local businesses by once again providing free on-street meter parking during the City’s Free Holiday Parking Program,” said Parking Services Manager Matt Eierman. “The City’s Parking Division is dedicated to making the overall parking experience pleasant, convenient and accessible for all visitors.”

From Nov. 25 to Dec. 25, no payment will be required at select on-street meters after 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends within the holiday parking zones. This includes green meter payment machines. Meter screens will reflect when parking is free and when payment is required.

The free parking applies only to meter payments. All parking violations, such as street cleaning, time zones and color zones, still will be enforceable as posted.

In October, City Council voted to repeal parking measures put in place at the beginning of the pandemic. Assessment of parking citation penalties and collection activities resumed in November, and full parking management operations will fully return to pre-pandemic levels on Jan. 3, 2022.

Throughout the year, free metered parking is also offered on specific holidays. Learn more about the City’s parking services on the City’s website.
