Don’t miss out on the chance to provide input on the final City Council redistricting map

There are two meetings remaining for community members to provide comment and feedback on what future City Council districts could look like for the next 10 years.

The last two Sacramento Independent Redistricting Committee (SIRC) meetings will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, and Thursday, Dec. 16.

“We are seeing more diverse groups participating in the City’s redistricting process, but we want more input,” said Lynette Hall, the City’s community engagement manager. “This is the public’s last chance to weigh in on how future City Council districts will look. We encourage all community members to review the draft maps and provide input by joining our next two meetings.”

The redistricting commission, which has been engaged in the redistricting process for approximately a year, will select final revisions of the maps at the Dec. 8 meeting, and the final maps are expected to be adopted on Dec. 16. The final maps will be taken to City Council in January 2022 for adoption.

Every 10 years, following the U.S. Census, the City of Sacramento must re-establish the boundaries for City Council districts. The resulting Council district boundaries must be balanced in population in accordance with local, state and federal rules governing the redistricting process.

SIRC, which includes 13 commission members, was formed in 2020 to set Council district boundaries.

Those interested in attending the public meetings can find more information on the City’s Redistricting website.
