City Council approves $5 million for Northgate Boulevard corridor revitalization

The Sacramento City Council on Tuesday approved the framework for a $5 million “Northgate Boulevard Economic Recovery Plan,” which will provide the corridor with business and nonprofit support and improvements to physical infrastructure.

Financial support for the plan comes from the Federal American Rescue Plan (ARP) funding for small business and commercial corridor revitalization, which was approved as part of the Mayor’s ARP spending framework.

“Working with the community to develop a spending framework for Northgate that will enhance safety, beautification and provide small business support has built a stronger neighborhood,” said Councilmember Jeff Harris, who represents the corridor and led the efforts to develop the plan. “I am certain that this significant investment will be a catalyst for even greater investment and improvements in the future.”

According to the Councilmember’s office, the plan incorporates extensive feedback and insight received from stakeholders, leaders, community-based organizations and business owners in the Northgate and Gardenland neighborhoods.

Several City departments including the Office of Innovation and Economic Development and Public Works are working execute the plan, and programs will be announced as soon as they are ready.
