The City of Sacramento is seeking three fellows to work on a range of sustainability, transportation and climate action issues. Fellows will receive pay and benefits.
Fellows are placed through CivicSpark AmeriCorps, a program dedicated to building capacity for public agencies by placing fellows to work on environmental issues.
“The CivicSpark program is a wonderful opportunity for recent graduates to get experience working in local government,” said the City’s Sustainability Analyst Sarah Kolarik. “The Climate Action team is hoping to find someone rooted in the Sacramento region that is excited about sustainability and climate action within their community.”
Fellows will be placed in the Office of Climate Action and Sustainability, Public Works Transportation Planning team, and Department of Utilities.
Fellows will work on some the City’s most pressing issues including community engagement and education on:
- Climate action and adaptation plans
- Pathways to transition existing buildings to carbon-free electricity
- Urban forestry planning to enhance tree canopy
- Transportation options and programs
Fellows will also work on:
- Transportation data analysis
- Supporting active transportation planning and transportation demand management strategies
- Researching drought and climate change impacts on water use
- Developing electric vehicle strategies for utilities and emergency operations

Fellows will receive a living allowance, health insurance, childcare assistance and other benefits.
To qualify, applicants must have a minimum of a 2-year AA degree and ability to work full time for an 11-month term. Find more details on requirements on the CivicSpark website.
