Applications are now being accepted for the “CLTRE Keeper First-Time Home Buyer Program,” a new service that provides homeownership resources to city of Sacramento residents with the goal of supporting underserved communities and entrepreneurs of color.
Funded by the City of Sacramento and managed by local community development nonprofit CLTRE, the eight-week program provides participants with the knowledge and financial resources to become first-time homeowners.
“The ‘CLTRE Keeper First-time Home Buyer’ program will guide participants through every step of the homebuying process and help them toward their dream of becoming a successful homeowner,” said City of Sacramento Financial Empowerment Manager Amy Williamson.
The program will highlight economic opportunities such as government-backed home buying programs and down payment assistance programs, as well as suggested partnerships with local real estate agents, the City’s Financial Empowerment Center and nonprofit organizations that can provide further support.
Participants will receive a $15,000 forgivable home loan and a $1,500 “flex amount,” which can be used to mitigate any credit debt or can be put towards the closing costs.
The program is designed to assist income-eligible individuals and households that:
- Live within the city of Sacramento in 95817, 95820, 95824, and 95828 zip codes
- Have a gross annual income at or below 80% of the local Area Media Income
- Live in the house purchased for 10 years to have the loan fully forgiven
The program is part of the City of Sacramento’s $10 million Stockton Boulevard Housing Stabilization program to support communities surrounding the Aggie Square project and other underserved communities throughout Sacramento.
Applications are due on Sept. 6 with classes expected to start the week of Sept. 21.
