The City of Sacramento is asking residents to take a survey about its Tenant Protection Program to help assess current knowledge, effectiveness and needs across the city when it comes to renter’s protections.

Data from the survey will help the City evaluate how the program could better assist residents and guide any potential changes to the Tenant Protection and Relief Act

Residents can take the five-minute survey by Friday, May 31. Participants will be asked a few simple questions regarding their knowledge of the tenant protection program, type of residence, and use of services. The survey is also available in Spanish.

“Participating in this survey will help our City team assess whether modifications are needed for the Tenant Protection Program to be of better use to residents who are renting,” said the City’s Program Specialist Vicki Riggins Medina.

The City Council adopted the Tenant Protection and Relief Act in 2019, which protects renters from excessive rent increases and unjustified evictions and established the Tenant Protection Program.

There are two basic components of the program: limited annual rent increases and eviction protections.

The program applies to most apartments and duplexes built before Feb. 1, 1995. Mobile home rentals and single occupancy rooms in hotels rented for longer than 30 days are included. Single-family dwellings and rental units in condominiums and stock cooperatives are excluded.
