The Department of Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment (YPCE) recently received a grant to design an ADA accessible trail to the south side of the American River at Sutter’s Landing Regional Park. This project aims to improve river access and promote inclusivity while preserving the park’s natural beauty.
In addition to the ADA compliant trail, the plan includes a non-motorized boat launch, habitat restoration for areas impacted by social trails, and the creation of interpretive signage to help visitors explore and appreciate the space.
The City is seeking public input on the preferred alignment for the trail and invites you to share your thoughts through a brief online survey. The survey is open until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
“The design team is looking at different options and will make their recommendation based on factors like cost, impacts on the river, utilities, public feedback, support from agencies, ease of access, and environmental concerns,” said Jason Wiesemann, YPCE’s park planning and development services manager. “Once complete, the accessible trail will provide more opportunities for residents and visitors to connect with nature, regardless of their mobility needs.”
Staff last December hosted an open house where information was shared about the ADA River Access Trail project and updates for the Sutter’s Landing Regional Park amenities plan.
The City received public funding for the trail from the Wildlife Conservation Board for project design and environmental compliance. Funding for construction still needs to be identified.
