Sacramento to host citywide clean-up events ahead of Earth Day

Residents are invited to roll up their sleeves and join City staff to help beautify parks, trails, and waterways during citywide volunteer events on Saturday, April 5.

From picking up litter to planting and mulching, these efforts offer a hands-on way to support neighborhood green spaces while getting a head start on Earth Day celebrations.

Events will run from 9 a.m. to noon and are open to individuals, families and community groups. In addition to trash pick-up at all sites, several locations will offer opportunities for planting, mulching, and other landscaping projects.

“We have big goals for these events and know our Sacramento community will step up to the challenge,” said Sarah Kolarik, the City’s sustainability analyst. “These efforts and our incredible community support make Sacramento greener and cleaner for everyone.”

Volunteer locations include:

(*) Please be advised these sites are more advanced and/or require at least one mile of walking.

Those interested in volunteering can sign up on the City’s website.

Volunteers should wear sunscreen and appropriate work clothing (e.g., closed-toe shoes) and bring their own water bottle. Tools for landscaping work and removing litter will be available. Individuals are welcome to bring their own trash grabbers and work gloves if they have them. Snacks and water refills will be provided.

These events are made possible through a collaborative effort between the City’s Office of Climate Action and Sustainability, Youth, Parks & Community Enrichment (YPCE), Department of Utilities (DOU), Office of Emergency Management (OEM), and the Community Engagement Team.
