The City of Sacramento held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, Oct. 2, to mark the official reopening of the Arcade Creek Bridge following months of construction and upgrades.
Mayor Kevin McCarty, District 2 Councilmember Roger Dickinson and Philip Vulliet, senior engineer with the Department of Public Works, joined City and project staff and community members to celebrate the project’s completion.
The bridge, located on Auburn Boulevard where it crosses Arcade Creek between Winding Way and Park Road near the SR-244 ramps, now includes several improvements:
- Dedicated lanes and sidewalks for bicyclists and pedestrians
- A second turn lane from westbound Auburn Boulevard to Winding Way to help ease congestion
- A raised bridge deck to remain operational during a 20-year storm event and reduce flooding
“This project will not only improve traffic flow in the area, but also support local commuters through enhanced bike paths and sidewalks,” Vulliet said.
He added that raising the bridge will allow for increased water flow and help prevent flooding, a recurring problem with the previous structure.
The $15.8 million bridge replacement project began in May and was completed in August. It was federally funded and led by the City of Sacramento in partnership with the County of Sacramento, which provided funding for the additional turn lane at Winding Way.
