Volunteer events offer hands-on opportunities to support Sacramento parks this weekend

Two volunteer events this Saturday will give community members a chance to improve local parks while learning new skills and spending time outdoors.

The Department of Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment (YPCE) is hosting a cleanup at Jacinto Creek Dog Park and a hands-on workshop at the McKinley Park Rose Garden on April 25. Both events are free and open to the public.

From 8 a.m. to noon, volunteers at Jacinto Creek Dog Park will help with tree trimming, weeding, mulching and general park beautification. Tools will be provided, and participants are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes and bring a water bottle.

At McKinley Park, a rose care workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to noon in the park’s historic rose garden. Participants will learn how to properly care for roses through a live demonstration and hands-on activities. No prior experience is required, though attendees should wear long sleeves, pants and closed-toe shoes.

“Opportunities like these bring people together to care for the spaces we all share while learning practical skills they can use at home,” said Sarah Musser, YPCE Park Maintenance Superintendent. “They also help keep our parks welcoming, well-maintained and ready for the community to enjoy.”

Both events are part of YPCE’s ongoing efforts to support safe, welcoming and well-maintained parks across Sacramento.

Community members can sign up in advance on the Better Impact platform.
