The Meadowview Certified Farmers Market will return Sunday, May 3, offering expanded access to fresh food, local vendors and community activities in the Meadowview neighborhood.
The grand reopening, hosted by operator Alchemist Community Development Corporation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Meadowview Light Rail Station (3501 Meadowview Road).
To celebrate the reopening, visitors can enjoy free face painting, health screenings, a bike repair clinic hosted by Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates, and live entertainment, including an 11 a.m. dance performance by Nostalgias de México and a live DJ set by MK Mobile Music.
Funding for the market was secured by Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen through the California Department of Food and Agriculture. The market is managed in collaboration with the City’s Office of Innovation and Economic Development and Councilmember Mai Vang, who represents the district.
“The reopening of the Meadowview Certified Farmers Market is a meaningful moment for South Sacramento, especially for the Meadowview community,” said Vang. “This market continues to be a space where people come together and have access to fresh, healthy, and culturally relevant food. We invite folks from across the city to come out, support our local vendors, and spend time in a community space that reflects the heart of Meadowview.”
This season’s market brings a mix of fresh produce, prepared foods and locally made goods. Shoppers can look forward to farm-fresh offerings from vendors such as Red Boot Ranch, Golden Honeybees, Mae Baan Farm and McGee Family Farm, along with prepared foods and beverages from vendors including Mama Vang’s, Wheat Ridge Baking Co. and Luna Cafe.
The market will be open every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine, from May 3 through Oct. 25, and is currently seeking additional vendors.
The Meadowview Certified Farmers Market accepts CalFresh/EBT and offers Market Match nutrition incentives, matching up to $15 of EBT benefits each week.
A new Kids Bucks program will provide a $5 voucher each week for children aged 12 and under. Vouchers can be used to purchase eligible agricultural products such as fruits, vegetables, eggs, nuts, honey, mushrooms and plants. Vouchers must be used the same day they are issued.
Sacramento Regional Transit will offer free rides to the grand opening from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 3. Riders can present a printed or digital flyer to board buses or light rail at no cost.
