Sacramento residents are invited to pick up free water-saving mulch on May 16 during the City’s annual Mulch Mayhem giveaway.
The free event will take place at the City’s South Area Corporation Yard (5730 24th St.) from 8 a.m. to noon, or while supplies last.
“Mulch is one of the easiest and most effective ways to help your landscape use less water,” said William Granger, the City’s water conservation coordinator. “It helps soil retain moisture, reduces evaporation and keeps plants healthier during Sacramento’s hot summers.”
Attendees can bring a truck or trailer for staff to fill or shovel their own mulch at a self-service station on site. There is a limit of one cubic yard of mulch per household.
“If you plan to load your own mulch, be sure to bring a shovel and a container,” Granger said. “We also recommend bringing a tarp to help cover and secure your load before leaving the site.”
