For Bob Simpson, owner of Townie on K Street, support from the City of Sacramento’s Business Solutions Center helped him reach potential customers visiting nearby Golden 1 Center.
Through the center, Simpson received guidance on improving his bar’s online presence and using Google Ads to reach people searching for nearby places to visit before or after an event.
“I started doing it and I saw instant results,” Simpson said.
Simpson’s experience is one example of how the City’s Business Solutions Center helps local entrepreneurs address business needs through free, one-on-one guidance, funding opportunities and data tools.
“I feel that any operator needs to look into the Business Solutions Center,” Simpson said. “It’s been very beneficial, not only financially, but educationally.”
Connecting business owners with resources
The center works with its lead partner, California Capital Financial Development Corporation, to help business owners develop business plans, improve marketing, seek financing, navigate City requirements and plan for expansion.
Qualifying businesses with actionable growth plans may also be eligible for microgrants of up to $5,000 and City fee credits of up to $2,500.
For Simpson, participating in the program helped him learn about available City resources while developing the skills to market Townie to nearby customers.
Supporting businesses across Sacramento
Since the program launched in 2025, the Business Solutions Center and California Capital have supported more than 300 business clients and provided 1,900 hours of technical assistance.
In 2025, participating businesses reported:
- $1.62 million in external grants and loans secured.
- $2.15 million in increased sales.
- 21 new businesses started.
Other businesses have used the center’s support to purchase equipment, reach customers and prepare for expansion. At Sammy’s Restaurant, owner Naz Begum used counseling and a microgrant to purchase essential equipment.
Beyond Words Productions received help developing a growth strategy and funding outreach and administrative support. Ancient Sun Date Shakes used advising and financial assistance to prepare for retail expansion beyond farmers markets.
“If you’re an operator and you’re a business owner in the City of Sacramento, there are resources out there,” Simpson said. “Seek it out, because it’s a great program.”
Business owners and entrepreneurs can learn more about available services and request free assistance through the Business Solutions Center webpage.
