Sacramento’s 2019 homeless census is a wrap. What was it like to volunteer?

Sacramento has completed its 2019 Point-in-Time count, with more than 800 volunteers helping to conduct the massive survey that determines the number of people experiencing homelessness in the county.

The PIT count, held every two year, was lead by Sacramento Steps Forward, the non-profit agency that coordinates homeless resources in the region.

“Thanks to our tremendous group of volunteers, this year’s PIT count was a success,” said Ben Avey, public affairs officer at SSF. “The data we gathered now will be carefully analyzed, and the results will help guide our strategies for helping some of the most vulnerable members of our community.”

Sacramento State’s Institute for Social Research is handling the data from the Jan 30-31 count. Its report is expected to be released in June 2019 and will help shape local policy and programming and determine funding.
