The Sacramento community is invited to celebrate Black History Month at the upcoming Black Heritage Festival from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 10 at Florin Square Plaza (2251 Florin Drive).
As part of the Florin Road Community Beautification Project, this free, family-friendly event will feature music from local bands, art exhibits, vendor and resource booths, film screenings, and educational workshops.
“This event will showcase the fantastic work which has been completed on behalf of the project and provide information on future projects planned for Florin Road,” said April Breis, the City’s Office of Arts and Culture Art Program Coordinator.
Art activities will be available for youth and adults including mural painting and printing of branded t-shirts to promote the project.
Participants will also enjoy food highlighting the African diaspora, cultural performances and exhibits, and giveaways.
The event is part of the Florin Road Community Beautification Project which is funded with a $1.2 million CalTrans Clean California grant. The project will improve a stretch of Florin Road from Tamoshanter Way to Franklin Boulevard through public art, beautification efforts, public outreach and youth engagement.
This event is hosted by Sojourner Truth African Heritage Museum in partnership with the City of Sacramento. Other partners in the project include Florin Road Partnership, Florin Square Community Development, and Luther Burbank High School.
