Several Oak Park homeowners recently received home repairs through the “Rock the Block” initiative, a community investment program funded in part by the City and led by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento.
The City of Sacramento helped fund the program to support low-income families and seniors in communities near the UC Davis Aggie Square innovation campus on Stockton Boulevard.
The event, held on May 3 and 4, brought together 400 volunteers who contributed nearly 3,200 hours of labor.
During the two-day event, volunteers worked on 15 home repairs and five community projects, using over 200 gallons of paint, 9,350 pounds of concrete, and building 854 feet of fencing. Additionally, they utilized 66.5 cubic yards of landscaping materials and collected 19.47 tons of waste, with 81% of it being recycled.
“The tireless efforts of our volunteers and supporters have been instrumental in the success of this initiative, significantly improving the quality of life for many families in Oak Park,” stated Axel Magallanes, the City’s housing administrative analyst.
The City and UC Davis are contributing a total of $10 million for anti-displacement activities, including emergency rent assistance, home repairs, and utility upgrades, among other things, as part of their commitment to supporting the Oak Park neighborhood.
Applicants for the “Rock the Block Oak Park” initiative must live within the designated area and own their home to qualify. Qualified applicants can benefit from a wide range of repairs and improvements, including landscaping, yard cleanup, fencing, external paint, dry rot repair, gutter cleaning, HVAC repair and replacement, roof replacement, pest abatement, window upgrades, water heater replacement, energy efficiency improvements, and other critical home repairs.
