Celebrate the opening of Meadowview’s new year-round farmers market June 9

Sacramentans are invited to join local officials in celebrating the grand opening of the Meadowview Certified Farmers Market, a weekly, year-round market set to provide fresh, local produce to the community.

The event will take place this Sunday, June 9, at the Meadowview Light Rail Station (3501 Meadowview Road).

The celebration will feature a welcome and ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by Councilmember Mai Vang, who represents the area, along with a check presentation by Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen. Esteemed guests will also offer remarks.

Funding for the market was secured by Assemblymember Nguyen through the California Department of Food and Agriculture. The market is managed by the Alchemist Community Development Corporation in collaboration with the City of Sacramento’s Office of Innovation and Economic Development and Councilmember Vang.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the critical issue of food insecurity, especially in underserved areas like Meadowview,” Vang said. “I am proud to have championed the launch of the Meadowview Certified Farmers Market, which will bring fresh, healthy food options to our residents. This market is a significant step towards addressing the lack of fresh and culturally appropriate foods in our community.”

The market will operate every Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine. It will feature a variety of vendors, including certified agricultural producers, hot food vendors, and packaged food products from small Sacramento businesses. The market is currently seeking additional vendors.

The Meadowview Certified Farmers Market accepts CalFresh/EBT and offers Market Match nutrition incentives, matching up to $10 of EBT benefits and SUN Bucks each week.

Sacramento Regional Transit is offering free rides to the grand opening from 6:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. on June 9 only. Riders can print or screenshot the flyer below and present it to ride SacRT bus operator or fare inspector on the light rail.
