City activates cooling centers July 1-7

With the National Weather Service forecasting an excessive heat watch for the coming days, the City of Sacramento will activate the Outreach and Engagement Center and the Sam & Bonnie Pannell Community Center as cooling centers where residents can find relief from the heat.

The OEC (3615 Auburn Blvd.) will operate from 10 a.m. Monday (July 1) to 8 a.m. Sunday (July 7). The center has storage available for personal belongings if needed and will accept pets.

The Sam & Bonnie Pannell Community Center (2450 Meadowview Road) will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday (July 1), Tuesday (July 2), Wednesday (July 3), and Friday (July 5). The site does not allow pets and personal storage will be limited to what visitors can carry with them. Please note that the community center will be closed on July 4.

In addition to air-conditioning, the site will offer water and places to recharge phones and other devices. If you need assistance in accessing weather respite, please call 311 and make a self-referral to be connected to an outreach worker.

During this time, libraries and community centers will also be available during their normal hours of operation, and people can also use these air-conditioned buildings as places to cool off.
