Sacramento Police Department welcomes new communications team

The Sacramento Police Department recently welcomed two new officers to its Public Information Office (PIO) team: Sgt. Dan Wiseman and Officer Allison Smith, joining veteran PIO Officer Anthony Gamble.

In their new roles, Wiseman and Smith will manage communications with the public and act as liaisons to the media.

Each brings a wealth of experience to the PIO office, and all are committed to providing transparent, timely, and accurate communication on behalf of the department, they said.

Wiseman grew up in the Bay Area and moved to Sacramento in 1996. His passion for law enforcement began early, leading him to join the Sacramento Police Department in 2007. He has worked in various roles, including citywide patrol, Regional Transit Police Services and serving as the department’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Liaison Officer. He was promoted to sergeant in 2022.

“Joining the PIO team has been an exciting opportunity for me,” Wiseman said. “I’m proud to represent the department and help maintain its strong, positive relationship with the community.”

Smith has been with the department for seven years. Before joining the PIO office, she worked as a patrol officer in both the north and downtown areas, as well as on the department’s Mental Health Unit. Additionally, she has been part of the Crisis Negotiation Team for over three years.

“I’m excited to represent the city where I was born and raised,” Smith said. “I’m proud to continue building connections with our community in this new role.”

Gamble, who has been with the department for eight years, previously worked in field training, motors and recruiting for SPD. He continues his role as a Public Information Officer, where he has been instrumental in ensuring the department’s message is clearly and effectively communicated to the public.

Public Information Officers within the Sacramento Police Department usually serve a two-year term.
