“Come to Your Senses” exhibit unites art and giving to support local families

The City of Sacramento is partnering with the Capitol Area Development Authority (CADA), YMCA of Superior California, and MusicLandria for the launch of a food, toy, and musical instrument drive to support local families, individuals, and youth programs.

The donation drive begins Nov. 27 with a kickoff event from 1 to 6 p.m. at 808 O St., and continues through December, as part of the ongoing “Come to Your Senses” interactive art exhibit in downtown Sacramento.

This immersive exhibit, which runs through Feb. 9, 2025, engages all five senses through tactile art, immersive light displays, and soundscape creation.

The kickoff event will feature live musical performances, engaging sensory experiences, and a special artist meet-up from 1 to 2 p.m., co-hosted by the City’s Office of Arts and Culture

This collaboration offers donors a meaningful way to give back while enjoying a unique sensory art experience. Donations of five canned goods or one new toy provides free admission for one person to the exhibit, while donating a musical instrument grants entry for up to four people.

“This donation drive and exhibit reflect our community’s creativity and generosity,” said Director of Convention and Cultural Services Megan Van Voorhis. “By coming together to support local families and youth programs, we’re not only addressing immediate needs but also fostering connections through art, music, and shared experiences. It’s a great opportunity to make a difference while celebrating the spirit of Sacramento.”

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the Sacramento community to come together, support local families and community members, and experience the magic of the ‘Come to Your Senses’ exhibit,” said Danielle Foster, Executive Director of CADA. “We are proud to partner with the City of Sacramento, the YMCA, and MusicLandria to make a real impact this holiday season.”

The donations will support YMCA programs, including swim lessons, youth camps, and community space initiatives. Musical instrument contributions will support MusicLandria, a nonprofit organization committed to expanding access to music and the arts in the community.
