The Florin Road Community Beautification Project was funded with a $1.2 million CalTrans Clean California grant with the goal of improving a stretch of Florin Road from Tamoshanter Way to Franklin Boulevard through public art, beautification efforts, public outreach, and youth engagement.

This project brought together community partners and stakeholders with a mission to reduce waste and debris, beautify, and improve public spaces and advance equity for underserved communities in the Meadowview neighborhood. Some activities include:

  • Litter abatement internship: Cleaned over 1 million square feet of community space and removed 121 cubic yards of waste.
  • Placemaking signage: Added to highlight vital community assets, including Florin Square and the Sojourner Truth African Heritage Museum.
  • Street banners: 37 banners featuring artwork by local youth now welcome visitors to “Discover Florin Road.”
  • Public seating: Installed at bus shelters to improve comfort and access to public transit.
  • Public art: More than 3,400 square feet of murals and 20 large-scale metal artworks installed throughout the project area.
