Discover adaptive sports and activities at upcoming Access Leisure open houses

The City of Sacramento’s Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment (YPCE) Department, through its Access Leisure program, invites the public to two open house events designed to celebrate and introduce the program’s offerings to the community.

The first open house will take place on Saturday, Jan. 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the North Natomas Community Center (2631 New Market Drive).

These free events are an opportunity to meet staff, explore adaptive recreation activities, and learn about Access Leisure’s programs supporting individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities, as well as veterans.

Attendees can try adaptive sports like cycling, sports chairs, and goalball; participate in a social game of bingo; and get creative with an art activity. Light refreshments will be provided, and participants will leave with a swag prize.

“We’re thrilled to open our doors to the community with these fun and engaging events,” said Recreation Manager Katie Houser. “Access Leisure has been a cornerstone of support and activity for the disability community in Sacramento for over 50 years, and we’re excited to showcase our programs and foster connections.”

The second event will be held on Saturday, April 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sam and Bonnie Pannell Community Center (2450 Meadowview Road).

The open houses are ideal for anyone interested in adaptive recreation, as well as those who want to support Sacramento’s disability community.
