Two days is all you need: City’s spring and summer watering schedule starts March 1

As the weather begins to warm, Utilities staff are reminding Sacramento residents and businesses that they can water with sprinklers up to two days per week, starting March 1.

The change marks the start of the City’s spring and summer watering schedule, which will remain in effect through the end of October.

“Landscapes naturally need more water as days get longer and temperatures rise,” said William Granger, the City’s water conservation coordinator. “By adjusting your watering routine, you can help your landscape thrive while using water more efficiently during the warmer months.”

Customers with even-numbered addresses can water on Wednesdays and Sundays and those with odd-numbered addresses can water on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

“We also ask everyone to water before 10 a.m. or after 7 p.m.,” said Granger. “Watering in the middle of the day causes much of the water to evaporate before it even reaches the roots.”

Granger also emphasized that wasting water is never allowed, nor is watering when it is raining and 48 hours after.

More information on the watering schedule can be found on the City’s website.
