The upcoming feature film “Sacramento” has officially released its first trailer, along with the announcement of its theatrical release date: April 11, 2025.
Directed by and starring Michael Angarano, alongside Maya Erskine, Kristen Stewart and Michael Cera, “Sacramento” tells the story of two long-time friends on a road trip to California’s capital. Angarano, who co-wrote the script, leads the film as Rickey, an energetic and free-spirited young man who persuades his old friend Glenn (Cera) to join him on an impromptu journey from Los Angeles to Sacramento.
Production for “Sacramento” wrapped in May 2023 after filming in several notable locations, including Old Sacramento, Gunther’s Ice Cream, East Sacramento, the R Street Corridor, and downtown.
The City of Sacramento’s Film + Media Office played a key role in supporting the production by securing permits, coordinating logistics, and assisting with neighborhood relations, parking, security, and street closures.
“Having ‘Sacramento’ filmed here is a testament to the city’s growing appeal as a filming destination,” said Sacramento Film Commissioner Jennifer West. “Productions like this not only showcase our vibrant locations but also bring economic benefits to local businesses and communities.”
According to West, the film contributed approximately $100,000 to the local economy through hotel stays, local hires, van rentals, and catering.
Angarano took to Instagram to celebrate the milestone, writing:
“SACRAMENTO trailer is here! 9 years after @chrischrissmithsmith and I started writing this bad boy, I’m so proud to say that we are coming to theaters on April 11th! I love this movie and everyone who had a hand in making it. Much more to come…”
