Explore Sacramento’s public art during Arts, Culture and Creativity Month

The City of Sacramento is recognizing “Arts, Culture, & Creativity Month” this April with a new interactive tool and a series of events that showcase how the arts contribute to community connection, well-being, and civic life.

Arts, Culture, & Creativity Month is a statewide effort organized by California for the Arts. This year’s theme, “Health, Healing, Hope,” highlights how the arts support collective recovery and reinforces the message that “Art Work is Real Work.”

In celebration of this month, the City’s Office of Arts and Culture (OAC) has launched a beta version of its Public Art GIS Mapping Tool, a new online experience that allows residents and visitors to easily explore Sacramento’s growing public art collection. The interactive map provides information on dozens of artworks throughout the city and is intended to make the City’s public art inventory more accessible.

“We’re excited to offer this new way for people to discover the breadth and vibrancy of Sacramento’s public art,” said Art in Public Places Manager Donald Gensler. “This tool makes it easier to experience the city’s cultural assets.”

The Office of Arts and Culture invites community members to explore the beta version of the GIS public art map and share their feedback by completing a brief online survey here.

The 2025 CA Arts & Culture Summit is also coming to Sacramento this month, bringing together artists, cultural leaders, advocates, and policymakers from across the state. The third annual summit will take place on April 22, followed by Arts Advocacy Day on April 23 at Capitol Park.

To support local participation, the OAC is providing scholarships for Sacramento-based artists to attend the summit. Funded in part by the American Rescue Plan Act, the scholarships were made possible through City support and contributions from community partners.
