Sacramento families are invited to splash into summer with Water Safety Day, a free community event focused on promoting safe habits in and around the water.
The event will be held at Pannell Meadowview Pool (2450 Meadowview Road) on Sunday, May 18, from 1-4 p.m. Guests of all ages can take part in interactive safety demonstrations, learn valuable water safety tips, and enjoy free recreational swimming under the supervision of trained lifeguards.
“Water safety is a life skill, and we want every member of the community to feel equipped and informed,” said Sjon Swanson, YPCE recreation manager. “This event gives families a chance to have fun while learning how to stay safe.”
All participants are expected to follow pool rules. Swimming attire is required, and non-swimmers must remain within arm’s reach of a supervising adult while in the water. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Only City-issued life jackets are allowed and available on site at no cost.
While Water Safety Day is a one-day event, the City also offers a free Basic Water Safety program throughout the summer. The three-session course introduces age- and ability-appropriate swimming and safety skills.
Registration is required and is available for sessions at Cabrillo, Johnston, Mangan, McClatchy, Oki, and Sim pools.
