The City of Sacramento, in partnership with the Del Paso Boulevard Partnership and PAVERART, will host a free community screening of the new short documentary “Beyond the Alleyways: The Dixieanne Story” on Thursday, May 22 at The Rink Studios in North Sacramento.
The 20-minute film captures how five alleyways in the Dixieanne neighborhood were transformed into safe, green and art-filled community spaces through a collaborative effort between residents, local artists and City staff.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the screening begins at 6:30 p.m. A panel discussion featuring key partners in the project will follow the film.
“This film captures more than just a beautification project,” said Fedolia “Sparky” Harris, a principal planner with the City’s Department of Public Works and project manager for the effort. “It tells the story of a neighborhood reclaiming public space through creativity, collaboration and care.”
The transformation of the alleyways is part of the Dixieanne Neighborhood Clean & Green Alleys project, a City initiative that combines public art, infrastructure upgrades and sustainability. The improvements included custom paving designed by PAVERART, tree plantings, permeable surfaces to manage stormwater, creative bollard art and fencing upgrades.
The event is free and open to the public. Community members are encouraged to RSVP here.
