With student loan collections resuming and millions of borrowers already in default or falling behind, the City of Sacramento’s Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) is offering a timely, free webinar: “Student Loans: Avoiding Default & What to Do If It Happens to You.”
The one-hour webinar will take place Tuesday, June 10, at noon and will be held online. Register here.
This session is designed to give borrowers the tools they need to make informed decisions, stay current on payments, and recover if they’ve already entered default. It will also cover the latest federal updates related to repayment and forgiveness programs.
Attendees will learn how to:
- Avoid falling into student loan default
- Navigate repayment plans and prioritize next steps
- Recover from default and understand their rights
- Identify opportunities for loan forgiveness or cancellation
- Access updated information about recent student loan changes
“Student loans can be a significant burden, and now is an especially confusing time,” said Amy Williamson, the City’s Financial Empowerment Manager. “This webinar will help people make informed, confident choices.”
The webinar will also highlight the free, one-on-one student loan counseling currently available through the FEC. Made possible by support from the State of California’s Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI), the service helps borrowers review their loans, explore repayment and forgiveness options, and connect with legal aid when needed.
The FEC also supports Sacramento residents in building long-term financial health by reducing debt, building savings, improving credit, and connecting with safe, affordable checking and saving accounts.
Personalized, professional coaching services are available in English, Spanish, Dari/Farsi, and Urdu, and are free to all Sacramento residents age 18 and older.
