SPD seeks community input on its annual military equipment use report and policy with this online survey

The Sacramento Police Department is seeking public input on its annual military equipment use policy and report through an online survey.

The survey takes a few minutes to complete and is available in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Chinese, Hmong and Vietnamese. Community members are asked to review the department’s draft policy and provide feedback. The policy is reviewed and approved annually by the Sacramento City Council.

The Sacramento Community Police Review Commission, in collaboration with the department, will host a community meeting to discuss the draft policy and report. The meeting is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the Oak Park Community Center (3425 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.)

The public is invited to attend. Food will be provided, and families are welcome.

The meeting will include a presentation from SPD and is part of the public engagement process required by California Assembly Bill 481. The law mandates that law enforcement agencies obtain governing body approval of a military equipment use policy prior to funding, acquiring or using military equipment as defined by the legislature.

Interpretation services are available by request. Residents should contact the City’s Community Engagement Office at CE@cityofsacramento.org or 916-808-5640 at least five business days prior to the meeting.
