Starting Monday, July 28, construction crews will begin demolishing sidewalks and driveways along the west side of Franklin Boulevard, adjacent to the southbound lane between Sutterville Road and 32nd Avenue.
To provide a safe working area for crews, Franklin Boulevard will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
Residents and businesses will always have access to their properties. The community should follow posted detours and plan for delays when traveling through the construction area.
What to expect during construction:
- Lane shifts and traffic controls
- Sidewalk and ramp closures, with pedestrian access maintained
- Increased construction noise
- Reduced street parking
This work is part of the Franklin Boulevard Complete Street Project, a major safety and mobility upgrade that will transform the corridor into a more welcoming gateway to the district, local businesses and surrounding neighborhoods.
The project is:
- Reducing lanes to calm traffic and prioritize pedestrians
- Adding bike facilities and a protected bike lane
- Increasing safety with new pedestrian lighting
- Constructing medians to accommodate pedestrian crossings
- Expanding tree coverage to eliminate the current “shade desert”
“Thank you to the residents, businesses and everyone traveling along Franklin Boulevard for your patience during this work,” said Senior Engineer Megan Johnson. “We know construction can be disruptive, but the improvements ahead will bring lasting benefits to the entire community.”
