The City of Sacramento and SacRT launched SacAdapt in late 2024, a planning effort to create an actionable roadmap to strengthen Sacramento’s transportation infrastructure against the impacts of extreme weather. Now in phase two of the project, staff are looking for community feedback to help prioritize transportation resilience efforts.
The project team over the past year reviewed existing climate adaptation work, studied how heat, flooding and other severe weather could affect local roads and transit, and analyzed the potential risks to bridges, bus stops and other transportation infrastructure. These efforts along with community feedback, will help shape the strategies recommended in the final plan.
“This past year of work has involved a lot of technical analysis to understand extreme weather impacts on our transportation system, and if the way we build and operate can withstand increasing extreme weather impacts,” said Sarah Kolarik, Sustainability Specialist with the Office of Climate Action and Sustainability. “Our project team aims to make this information easy to understand so that community members can get around Sacramento in all types of weather and especially by walking, biking and taking transit.”
Get involved by:
- Responding to the online survey by Oct. 31 to help us prioritize our transportation resilience efforts.
- Engaging with the project team in person at one of the events listed on the SacAdapt website, with key upcoming events on Thursday, Sept. 18 at the City Connect Mixer and Sunday, Sept. 21 at the Climate Justice Festival.
The City expects to have the draft plan available for review and comment in early 2026.
Project updates, future events, and other opportunities to stay engaged will be shared on the project website and through the Sustainable Sacramento newsletter.
