Center for Sacramento History is opening the archives vault Oct. 4 for Annual Crawl

The Center for Sacramento History is celebrating National Archives Month by inviting the public to the 15th Annual Sacramento Archives Crawl, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This free event gives visitors the opportunity to explore a special collection of artifacts, learn more about the value of archives and to recognize the archivists who bring the past to the present.

“The Center for Sacramento History archivist team looks forward to this event each year as we want to bring people together to explore the Sacramento region’s history through primary sources and connect with the community,” said City Archivist Sabrina Holecko.

The Crawl is hosted at four institution sites in downtown Sacramento: the California State Archives, California State Library, Center for Sacramento History, and Sacramento Room at the Sacramento Public Library, with free bus transportation provided between all locations.

Attendees will receive an Archives Crawl passport to gather stamps from all four locations and have the chance to visit with archivists, view special library collections, and win prizes. Each site will offer their own experience and historical artifacts to share.

The Center for Sacramento History will feature behind-the-scenes tours of the collection vault and a special exhibit on Brandt Recording Studio and the record pressing process. There will be a special live performance by youth jazz band TNT and an exhibit on the heyday of the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee showcasing photos, posters, artifacts, and archival film footage will be highlighted.

The Center for Sacramento History is open to the public for in-person research by appointment on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Learn more at centerforsacramentohistory.org.
