I Street Bridge to close Oct. 6–16 for siding repairs

The I Street Bridge between Sacramento and West Sacramento will close for 10 days beginning 6 a.m. Monday, October 6, through 6 a.m. Thursday, October 16.

Union Pacific Railroad, which owns and operates the bridge, needs to complete repairs to the exterior siding of a building on the bridge.

The closure will affect all travel across the I Street Bridge during the repair period. Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians will need to use alternate routes.

Detour routes are as follows:

  • Westbound traffic

    • From southbound Jibboom Street: Left on I Street → Right on Third Street → Right on Capitol Mall.

    • From westbound I Street (committed to bridge approach): Right on Jibboom Street → Right on Railyards Boulevard → Right on Fifth Street → Right on I Street → Left on Third Street → Right on Capitol Mall.

    • From westbound I Street: Left on Third  Street → Right on Capitol Mall.

  • Eastbound traffic

    • From northbound Third Street: Left on B Street → Left on Fourth Street → Left on C Street → Right on Third Street → Left on Tower Bridge Gateway.

    • From eastbound C Street: Right on Third Street → Left on Tower Bridge Gateway.

    • From southbound Third Street: Left on Tower Bridge Gateway.
