Sacramento musicians are encouraged to take part in the Sound Business Summit, a series of free workshops designed to help artists build sustainable music careers.
The Sound Business Summit will take place Nov. 10–15, at Shattered Records (2010 Alhambra Blvd.) and will feature sessions such as “Making Money with Music” led by musician, author and industry expert Randy Chertkow.
The summit, hosted by the Department of Sound — a creative economy initiative supported by the City of Sacramento’s Office of Arts and Culture — will offer an identical curriculum each evening focused on royalties, licensing, live performance strategies, merchandising and other key areas of the music business.
Participants will also receive year-long access to the “Making Money With Music” course on the Center for Creative Entrepreneurship Learning Hub.
“Sacramento is home to an extraordinary number of working artists — it’s time we back them to thrive,” said John Hamilton Hodgson, co-founder and CEO of Department of Sound. “With the inaugural Sound Business Summit, we’re focusing on artists ‘on the cusp’ and giving them practical tools so their creative businesses can grow. When artists are supported, it strengthens the cultural fabric of our city and keeps creative dollars here at home.”
Artists 18 years or older who reside within Sacramento city limits are encouraged to apply at deptofsound.org/summit by Nov. 4.
Space is limited to 18 attendees per session, and a waitlist will be available if needed. Participants will be selected through a review process that may include a lottery system.
The Department of Sound provides music education and career resources for aspiring artists as part of the City’s ongoing investment in Sacramento’s creative economy.
