Sacramento saw fewer reported crimes across every major category in 2025 compared to 2024, according to new data from the Sacramento Police Department.
Police reported reductions in motor vehicle theft, larceny-theft, burglary, aggravated assault, robbery, rape and homicide. Car theft and burglary showed the biggest declines, while rape and homicide saw smaller drops.
“We’re always looking for the next innovative option that will help us keep our city safer and in a more efficient way,” said Sacramento Police Officer Allison Smith. “Reduction in crime is multifaceted. It comes from the work that we do as a police department, but also how we continue to build trust and work with our community.”
SPD officials said the decrease reflects a combination of proactive policing, strong investigative work and added tools like the City’s Public Safety Camera Network and ShotSpotter technology.
