Statewide creative economy tour stops in Sacramento with in-person, virtual events

Sacramento’s creative community is invited to help shape California’s first Creative Economy Strategic Plan during an upcoming statewide engagement tour stop in the city. The plan focuses on cultural resilience, economic growth and global leadership across California’s creative sectors.

The in-person convening will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Feb. 4 at Memorial Hall inside Memorial Auditorium (1515 J St.), which is wheelchair accessible. ASL translation will be provided during the program. Networking will follow from 7:30–8 p.m.

A virtual session focused on the Capital region will follow from 1-3 p.m. on Feb. 5 for those unable to attend in person.

The events are hosted by California for the Arts, a regional partner for the “Creative Economies in Action: Statewide Engagement Tour,” in partnership with the California Arts Council and the City of Sacramento’s Office of Arts and Culture.

Participants will learn about the State’s newly released Creative Economy Strategic Plan and have an opportunity to share feedback and local stories that will help shape future updates to the plan. Community input gathered through the tour will be compiled and submitted to the Governor’s Office and State Legislature in spring 2026. Attendees are encouraged to come prepared for the networking portion with informational materials and contact information for their organizations or initiatives.

Representatives from the Creative Economy Workgroup, the California Arts Council and local governments will share updates, followed by a question-and-answer session and breakout discussions focused on local impacts. Speakers include Elmy Bermejo, director of the California Office of the Small Business Advocate; Lex Leifheit, cultural policy adviser for the City of Oakland; and Jason Jong, cultural and creative economy manager for the City of Sacramento.

“This convening is an opportunity for Sacramento’s creative workers, organizations and businesses to ensure their experiences and priorities are reflected at the state level,” Jong said.

The Sacramento events are part of a broader statewide series designed to support implementation of the strategic plan through community engagement, public events and storytelling. Additional region-specific virtual sessions may be added, and some sessions may include live translation to increase accessibility.
