Catch surprise leaks early with the City’s free water-tracking website

Sacramento residents who want to avoid unexpected water bills can receive alerts about potential leaks through the City’s free water-tracking website.

By creating an account, water customers can sign up to receive email or text notifications when unusual or continuous water use is detected—often the first sign of a hidden leak.

“A lot of the leaks we see aren’t dramatic pipe breaks. They’re small issues like a running toilet or an irrigation valve that didn’t shut off,” said William Granger, the City’s water conservation coordinator. “But over time, those small leaks can waste thousands of gallons.”

In addition to leak alerts, the online tool allows residents to track their household water use by the hour, day, week or month through an easy-to-read dashboard.

“Monitoring water use is one of the easiest ways to improve household water efficiency,” Granger said. “By understanding when and how water is used, people can make small adjustments that lead to meaningful savings.”
