Front Street waives dog adoption fees through April 12

Front Street Animal Shelter is at critical capacity, and in an effort to place dogs into loving homes, all dog adoption fees are waived through Sunday, April 12 with the goal to open up kennel space for incoming stray animals.

As the City of Sacramento’s municipal shelter, Front Street takes in multiple stray and lost dogs every day. When a dog is adopted, it gives a dog a second chance and helps make space for more in need.

The shelter has a wide variety of adoptable dogs, ranging in size, breed, and energy level, a match for every home and lifestyle.

“Promotions like these are often what inspire someone to take that first step through our doors,” said Interim Animal Care Services Manager Ryan Hinderman. “We need compassionate individuals to step up and give these animals a second chance, and in return, experience the joy and love they can bring into adopters’ lives.”

For those who have never adopted from Front Street, the process is simple.

Visitors can browse available dogs on the shelter’s website ahead of time or walk through the kennels to see who catches their eye. Once a dog is selected, adopters can sign up on the meet and greet waitlist while at the shelter and spend time with the dog alongside a skilled adoption counselor.

Every adopted dog goes home spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. This promotion also applies to dogs in foster care.

The shelter is open daily from 12 – 5 p.m. for walk-in adoptions, at 2127 Front St.

All adoptable dogs in the shelter and in foster care can be found through the adoptable dogs page online.
