Safely dispose of household hazardous waste
Sacramento residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste, such as batteries, pesticides, fuel and paint, at no cost. Materials can be dropped off at the household hazardous waste facility at 8491 Fruitridge Road, which is also open Saturdays.

Applications open Oct. 1 for foster youth guaranteed income program
Applications for the Foster Youth Guaranteed Income Program will be accepted Oct. 1-31. Eligible current and former foster youth living in Sacramento County may receive $900 per month for up to two years. Participants will be selected by lottery, and applicants are encouraged to begin the process early. Learn more and apply.

Last chance to apply for Stockton Boulevard project grants
The City is accepting applications for approximately $80,000 in grants to support community-led projects along Stockton Boulevard. Applicants may request between $5,000 and $20,000 for projects that benefit people and businesses within the Stockton Boulevard Plan area. Applications are due Oct. 2 at 4 p.m.

Help care for the Blackbird Park Community Garden
Join YPCE’s Community Gardens Program Oct. 3 from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at Blackbird Park Community Garden, 3765 Hovnanian Drive. Volunteers will help weed, mulch and turn compost. Tools and equipment will be provided. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing and bring a refillable water bottle.

Take part in Sacramento Police Department’s Female Fitness Challenge
The Sacramento Police Department will host its annual Female Fitness Challenge Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McKinley Park. The free event gives participants an opportunity to try the department’s Physical Ability Test, meet officers and recruiters and learn about careers and specialized units. Participants taking part in the fitness challenges must be at least 18 years old.

Share feedback on proposed red-light safety cameras
The City will host a community workshop on the proposed Automated Red Light Camera Enforcement Program Oct. 7 from 6-8 p.m. at Washington Elementary School, 520 18th St. Attendees can learn how the program would work, review proposed camera locations and share their traffic-safety priorities.
